We will begin the year by thanking those members of our Council who are
going off – Doris Ove and Ken Krah.
Doris has been our Recording Secretary and Ken has been the Stewardship
Chairperson for many years. We appreciate all they have done for our Council and
for Grace Lutheran Church.
At our Annual Meeting we adopted the following Purpose for Grace Lutheran
Church:
Providing people with the resources to
see, follow, and join with God to change lives and the world around us.
According to Dave Daubert, the author of “Living Lutheran: Renewing Your
Congregation,” the reason for creating a purpose statement is to “remind
ourselves of what we are here for.
We clarify and focus on our purpose so our ministry can stay centered on what we
believe God wants us to center on.
When we lose our center we struggle in ministry.
Even if the words are catchy, when people come they find that we don’t
live up to them. Ministry becomes a sort of membership recruitment enterprise.
People come thinking that their lives will change.” (Page 49)
I think we can
expect great things here at Grace this year as we stay focused on our purpose
and centered on what God wants us to stay centered on.
